New Build or Existing Home? What Buyers Should Know.

The first step in buying a house is setting expectations and asking questions, and with the surplus of both newly built and existing homes on the market your first step when setting these expectations is to stop and think about exactly what kind of home it is you’re looking for. Whatever you settle on will ideally become your home, a place of comfort where the only opinion that matters is your own - so let’s talk about some pros and cons so you can take your best step forward.

What is the Difference Between an Existing Home and a New Construction Home?

The biggest clue is in the names alone; existing homes are homes that have been around, whether for 1 year or for 10+ years, these are homes that have more than likely been lived in and are often listed by the previous homeowner.

On the flipside new construction homes are homes that are freshly built, think Betenbough, D.R. Horton and Ventura homes - usually in newer areas or new neighborhoods that are under development and these homes are often listed by brokerages or directly by the construction company.

What Are the Pros and Cons?

At the end of the day the home you decide on should be what you want it to be, whether that means it’s brand new with a modern flourish or a home with personality and aged feel that you want - your future home can be whatever you make it once you know what you’re after. Either way the Legacy Home Group team would love to be a part of such a journey and answer any questions you may have!
